software that doesn’t work

June 29, 2007

You know what irks me? When you go and register at a forum and get the same error time and time again. Then, when you try to email the admin for the board, the mail comes bouncing back to you with some error.

Well, I ran into that tonight. Ruined my night.

Natuba-RESOLVED

June 29, 2007

Never let it be said that I wasn’t on the bleeding edge. I mentioned that I got an invite for Natuba and was happily setting things up when, suddenly, I could not get to the build page, which lets you add stuff to your mashup.

After several emails from the Natuba bunch, it turns out that the apostophe in my Flickr account screen name screwed things up. I’m glad that I was able to help them find out what was going on.

However, I’ve gotten emails from folks that I know warning me about Flickr and problems with their security in that some folks have gotten to pics which were locked to friends and family only. Seeing as how Yahoo owns Flickr, this is not good. I’ve recently locked things down to just friends and family and no searches so we’ll see if that works.

Gosh, I should see how many blogs I’ve started and where they are. I should kill off those that I’m not going to use to be fair to others. Yeesh. Nothing worse than a blog hog.

Natuba! Part Dos

June 28, 2007

I got an invite to try this site out. At first, it worked fine. Now, there are issues with trying to get into the area where I can build the mashup. Emails have been sent and I think this is just growing pains.

Knowing who is behind this site (Richard Yu, founder of RackSpace hosting), I’m confident that they will fix that quickly.

I’m trying something different

June 28, 2007

I changed a couple of the posts. I tried to just have the URL for the Microsoft Surface spoof and the Mac or PC spoof and that didn’t seem to work.

So, I put the embed code back in for the surface spoof and then just stuck a link in for the Mac or PC spoof. I may also include the embed code for Mac or PC.

I’ve noticed that WordPress doesn’t like embed codes. They don’t support this yet but they DO support the YouTube stuff, so it’ll be interesting to see how this translates.

More after I go and look.

Well, I put the URLs in for these videos. It’d be nice if they allowed the embed tag but I would assume that they have their reasons why not.

Security flaws from Dark Reading site

June 28, 2007

This is under their Application Security keyword:

Vulnerability: AOL
Instant Messenger

Published: 2007-06-28
Severity: LOW
Description: AOL instant
messenger (aim) 6.1.32.1 on
windows xp allows remote
attackers to cause a denial
of service (application
crash) via a malformed
header value in a sip invite
message, a different
vulnerability than cve-2007-
3350.

Vulnerability:
Microsoft MSN
Messenger Service

Published: 2007-06-28
Severity: LOW
Description: microsoft msn
messenger 4.7 on windows xp
allows remote attackers to
cause a denial of service
(resource consumption) via a
flood of sip invite requests
to the port specified for
voice conversation.

I don’t count on these getting fixed any time soon, since it’s a low
severity risk, but, as always, we’ll see.

My niece Kristen

June 28, 2007

I haven't kept in touch with my niece Kristen. She's my baby
sister's girl. And she's got. not only her mom's good looks, but her
brains as well.

Check out this issue of the School of Chemical Studies alumni
news. As little as I talk to her or hear from her, I am SO proud of
her accomplishments. Her mom would be proud as well.

Alrighty then…

June 28, 2007

A new picture has been put up. At least there’s a hint of a smile.

Fixed up the links, etc on the sidebar.

Hey, I heard that there is a “Blogger-in-draft” that has several new features, a poll and also the ability to put podcast enclosures in a post. Now that’s neat.

Yes, they are trying to keep up with WordPress. Will they be able to do it? We’ll see.

I know, I know.

June 27, 2007

I’ve been busy and haven’t gotten around to getting a new picture up here.

Trust me, I don’t look like that ALL the time.

Oh heck

June 27, 2007

I see that the videos and such that I posted here don’t show up on my Natuba page. I have no idea why, except that they may not have support for that as of yet.

Outstanding show

June 27, 2007

As some might know, the Library of Congress awarded Paul Simon it’s first Gershwin Prize For Popular Song.

I just finished watching the two hour special on PBS celebrating this event and all I can say is….WOW!

Some of the songs took me back to my early teens when I started getting interesting in folk music and, as a natural turn of events, also developed an interest in groups like Seals and Crofts and Simon and Garfunkel.

If you have NOT seen this special, check your local PBS station listings to see when it will be repeated.

You will NOT be disappointed.
